AMSD represents 49 K-12 school districts, and six intermediate / cooperative districts, enrolling more than half the state’s preK-12 public school students.

AMSD is highly regarded for its nonpartisan research and advocacy, timely comprehensive updates, and extensive legislative summaries. With the mission to lead the transformation of public education, AMSD board members and staff stand ready to assist state policymakers by providing current research and feedback from practitioners to help them make informed policy decisions.

KnowledgeWorks

In 2023, AMSD partnered with the national education organization KnowledgeWorks to identify strategies to support member districts in implementing student-centered learning opportunities. A year of research, surveys, focus groups and discussion has culminated in specific recommendations outlined in an AMSD Strategy Guide to Enable Student-Centered Learning Systems in Minnesota.

Reimagine Minnesota

In March 2016, a group of metropolitan superintendents gathered together to discuss the future of education in the State of Minnesota and ultimately, partnered with communities throughout Minnesota to identify nine strategies to address and ensure equity and excellence for all students.
