Association of Metropolitan School Districts

AMSD is The Voice for Metro Schools & Students
The Association of Metropolitan School Districts (AMSD) is the only educational organization in Minnesota whose primary objective is to advocate for and represent the needs of metropolitan school districts.  AMSD speaks with a unified voice to make positive change for metro students at the Legislature.

AMSD provides…

Timely updates. AMSD understands the importance of providing its members with factual, concise and timely information on key issues affecting public schools.  Using Facebook, Twitter, blog posts and regular email updates, AMSD keeps members continuously up-to-date about the progress of the legislative session.

Important Research. AMSD employs a full time senior policy advocate to provide in-depth research on education policy issues, ongoing financial analysis of pending legislation, and strategic advice and training for local school officials and parent groups.  Research is distributed through regular workshops, an annual conference and AMSD’s monthly e-newsletter, Connections.

Access. AMSD provides access to key state policymakers.  Legislative leaders, commissioners, and other state officials are regularly guest speakers at AMSD Board of Director meetings.  AMSD was the only education organization to sponsor a gubernatorial forum with all three of the major party candidates in 2010.

Results. For more than 35 years, AMSD has positively impacted legislative outcomes.  From providing schools with much-needed funding increases, to easing state mandates, AMSD advocates for state educational policy that makes it possible for metropolitan school districts to improve student achievement.  AMSD gets results!
