Session Underway
The 2010 legislative session convened at noon yesterday. Quick action is expected on a bonding bill although negotiations between the Governor and legislative leaders could prove challenging. A major area of disagreement is over the size of the bill. The Governor’s proposal came in at under $700 million while the House and Senate are proposing bonding bills of about $1 billion. The pace will be fast and furious as the legislative deadlines will come quickly. While a final agreement has not been reached, the tentative deadlines are:
March 12 – 1st policy deadline
March 19 – 2nd policy deadline
March 29 – Fiscal bill deadline
Legislators are planning to recess for a Passover/Easter break from March 29 until April 6. The Legislature must complete its work by May 17, the constitutionally mandated date for adjournment.
Legislative Auditor’s Report
As I reported earlier, the Office of the Legislative Auditor released its program evaluation report on Alternative Education Programs. The auditor will present findings from the report to legislative committees next Tuesday. Here is a link to the report:
