New AMSD Members
I previously reported that Stillwater Area Schools has joined AMSD. I am very pleased to report that White Bear Lake Area Schools and St. Cloud Areas Schools have also joined AMSD. Please join me in welcoming them!
Budget Summit
DFL legislative leaders are conducting a budget summit this morning that includes former governors and former legislative leaders. Governor Pawlenty is not participating in the summit. Parts of the summit will be private but portions will be webcast. You can access the webcast here:
Financing Education in Minnesota publication available
The 2009-10 edition of Financing Education in Minnesota is now available. This is an excellent publication developed by staff in the House of Representatives Fiscal Analysis Department. This is a great publication to share with your staff, parent groups and interested community members as it does a nice job explaining Minnesota’s education finance system in a relatively easy to understand way. Booster Seat Law
As you know, there has been some confusion surrounding the booster seat law that was passed during the last legislative session and whether or not it applies to school buses. Click here for a letter from Sen. Steve Murphy, chair of the Senate Transportation Committee, to Public Safety Commissioner Michael Campion which provides some helpful information.
Board Meeting this Friday
The next AMSD Board of Directors meeting is this Friday, September 11 from 7 – 9 a.m. in the TIES Building. Our guest speakers will be Rep. Carlos Mariani, Dr. Emmanuel Dolo and Shawn Lewis from the MN Minority Education Partnership.
