Session Convenes on February 12

The 2008 Legislative Session convenes next Tuesday, February 12 and Governor Pawlenty will deliver his State of the State address on Wednesday, February 13 in St. Cloud.  The first committee deadline is just one month after session begins so the pace will be fast and furious.  It is going to take an extraordinary grassroots advocacy effort to secure supplemental funding for education.  Most Capitol observers expect the next revenue and expenditure forecast due out at the end of the month to bring further bad news in the form an even higher projected budget shortfall both for the current biennium and for next biennium.

You should have received the latest AMSD Connections newsletter yesterday but in case you didn’t I am including a link to our web site where you can access it.  You will note that the research article offers data you can use with your local legislators to make the case for supplemental funding.  In addition, please share your local budget challenges and anticipated reductions with your local legislators if you haven’t done so already.
